Overview

Arch Enemies is a bridge building puzzle game where a fox tries to bridge the differences of the animals in the forest to save their home from invasive species. It involves convincing other animals to join your cause and building bridges by using your allies to cross a flooded forest.

This game  represents the work done by 10 students aiming to program their first game using GODOT. Check out our progress (+ more info on the game) on our github: Arch Enemies on Github

Navigate through the flooded forest as the fox and talk to different animals. Help them solve their problems so they join you in saving the forest!

Using your allies, build a bridge across the flooded forest and jump across, avoiding dangers like spiky vines or meddling frogs!

About the Game

This game came to be as part of a university practical course. This course was set up like a game jam.

The theme was "troubled waters". Our game interprets this theme in two ways: In the game the forest was flooded due to a storm, so there are literal troubled waters. But there is also conflict between the animals, instigated by the frogs who want to take over the forest after the flood, so figuratively, the waters are troubled as well.

The goal of the game is to build literal bridges to cross the flooded forest using the allies the fox (= the player) has gathered in their travels, and solving the conflict between the animals, thus rebuilding the relational bridges between the animals.

It's an interesting game!  A few thoughts:

  • I definitely had more animals than I needed; I'm not even sure I ever used a spider.
  • I picked up the fly before talking to the spider, which made the checklist and the conversation both a little strange.

Thanks so much for the feedback!!

I can’t guarantee this will be fixed, as we made this game for a course and this is the version we will be handing in, but we might work on it in the future, so it’s really nice to have. We left more animals in than needed for playtesting as we weren’t sure how hard the game was and did not want people to get stuck, but fair point! Should the game be worked on again, there should be less animals to make it more challenging. As for the dialogue/checklist UI, that makes sense! If we work on the game again we will take that into account. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to add different dialogues depending on what you did before talking to someone :( But, these could be easily added at some point.

Hey, no worries!  A demo or pilot only needs to be as complete as you want it to be; I only said anything at all because, well, you did ask for feedback. :-)  I have no doubt that, given more time and attention, any and all issues will be addressed.
